A festészet gyakorlatához kapcsolódóan továbbra is egyetlen alapvető kérdés maradt, mégpedig az, hogy 'mit tehet a festő a kamera feltalálását követően'? Egy ideje kialakulóban van egy új paradigma, amely magát a formát vizsgálja, és ez az új nézet a forma konkrét aktualitásaira igyekszik ráirányítani a figyelmet.

Mi lehet a kapcsolat és a folytonosság a táblakép formátumú portré és a monokróm festészet között? Ez nem más, mint maga a portré célja, amely nem csupán az alany megjelenésének valósághű ábrázolására tett kísérlet, hanem egyben az ábrázolt egyén személyiségének és belső karakterének megragadása is.

A festmény egyszínű képként történő bemutatásának célja, pedig ugyanígy, nem csupán egy színes tárgy készítése, hanem az ábrázolt egyedi szín belső természetének a feltárása is. Vagyis a festmény funkciójával kapcsolatos összes kérdés a színek chartája és személyisége alá van rendezve. A kép a néző színhez kapcsolódó érzései által mutatkozik meg, mégpedig úgy hogy a szín képi identitását a szín tényleges festett minősége határozza meg. Gál András fontos szereplője ezen új paradigma alakulásának.

For the practice of painting as a continuing art form, the essential question remains - What does the painter do after the invention of the camera?  There is now being developed a new paradigm for the investigation of its form.  It is a paradigm to present the concrete actuality of the form itself.

What is referred to as Monochrome Painting comes out of the easel form of portraiture.  The intent of the portrait is, not only to present how the subject looks, i.e., their outer appearance, but also to capture the personality or inner character of the individual being represented. 

The intention of presenting a painting as a single color image is not just to make a colored object, but also to reveal the inner nature of its specific color. So all questions about the function of the painting are subordinate to the charter or personality of its color.  The image is presented to elicit our feeling response to its color,  and it is the actual painted quality of the color that determines the image identity of the painting.  Andras Gal is a player in the development of this new paradigm.
